Pine Island CC to Host 2017 NC Women's Amateur Championship

Pine Island Country Club to Host NC Women’s Amateur Championship

June 13, 2017 - Charlotte, NC - The North Carolina Women's Golf Association (NCWGA) will host the 68 th playing of its Women's Amateur Championship at Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, NC, on June 20-22, 2017. The North Carolina Women's Amateur is a stroke play event open to all female amateurs who reside in North Carolina for at least six months, have an established GHIN Handicap Index, and have paid their NCWGA annual dues or are a member of a NCWGA member club.

Two sets of tees will be utilized for the championship. The Championship Division will compete from approximately 6,000+ yards and the State Division (shorter tees) will compete from around 5,200 yards. The NCWGA Champion, Senior Champion and Junior Champion will be determined from contestants playing the Championship Tees. The Super Senior Champion will be determined from contestants playing the State Tees.

The 2016 Championship was held at Croasdaile Country Club in Durham and was won by Bryana Nguyen who shot 69-70-71--210 to take the title. Nguyen, who plays for UNC Chapel Hill and just completed her junior year, will not competing in this year’s Championship.

Kathryn Carson of Mooresville - 2017 North Carolina Junior Girls' Champion, finished T6 in Carolinas Women's Amateur, currently ranked 6th in North Carolina Junior Girls' Player Rankings, will attend East Carolina University in the Fall

Courtney McKim of Raleigh - Finished 5th in the 2016 North Carolina Women's Amateur, Finished 9th at the 2017 Carolinas Women's Amateur, competed in the 2017 U.S. Women's Four-Ball Championship (with partner Mary Katherine Donovan), made the match play cut at the 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, currently ranked 9th in Carolinas Women's Player Rankings

Ashley Sloup of Southport - Finished 2nd in the 2016 North Carolina Women's Amateur, 2016 Carolinas Women's Amateur Champion, Finished T6 at the Carolinas Women's Amateur, currently ranked 17th in Carolinas Women's Player Rankings, current player at Winthrop University

Jessica Spicer of Bahama - Finished T6 in the 2016 North Carolina Women's Amateur, finished 2nd in the 2016 Carolinas Young Amateur, finished 6th in the 2017 Women's Eastern Amateur, competed in the 2017 U.S. Women's Four-Ball Championship (with sister and partner Sarah Spicer), competed in the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, currently ranked 19th in Carolinas Women's Player Rankings, current player at Virginia Tech
