The North Carolina Women's Golf Association supports and promotes women's amateur golf statewide and provides opportunities for women to compete and play golf in a variety of formats and venues. The NCWGA sponsors the North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship, the NCWGA Net Team Tournament, and the NCWGA State Play-Day Tournament. The NCWGA also supports the Carolinas Golf Association, Junior Girls' Golf, The Women's Virginias-Carolinas Team Matches, and the Southeastern Women's Amateur Team Matches.
North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship: The North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship is a three-day stroke play tournament usually held in June. The Championship allows women to experience the thrill of amateur competition at the highest level in North Carolina. 112 of the women with the lowest index entries are accepted, and participants enjoy full days of competition and camaraderie. The 2008 Championship was held at Sapona Country Club in Lexington, June 16-19. The 2009 Championship will be held at Wilson Country Club in Wilson. To be eligible to enter the Championship, a player must be a member of an NCWGA member club or league, or she must join the NCWGA as an individual. Please see the North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship, President's Page, and Membership web pages.
Team Tournament: Our NCWGA Team Tournament is designed to encourage participation of women golfers throughout the state who may not qualify for the North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship. The purpose of this tournament is to socialize, meet new people, and compete with golfers of all handicaps. The 2009 Team Tournament will be held at Little River Farm in Carthage, September 12 and 13. The tournament is a two-day tournament with Friday, September 11, as an optional practice day. There is a small additional charge for the practice round. Please see the Team Tournament web page for information and pictures on the 2008 event.
State Play-Day Tournament: Each NCWGA member club may host a local handicap tournament for its members. The winner of each tournament receives a gold-finished charm with an NCWGA seal, her name engraved on an NCWGA plaque in her home club, and her name and picture displayed on the NCWGA State Play-Day Tournament web page. The club winner with the lowest net winning score is the NCWGA State Play-Day Champion. Please see the State Play-Day Tournament web page for details.
Liaison to the Carolinas Golf Assocation: The NCWGA maintains an active liaison with the Carolinas Golf Association. Since the NCWGA started this effort, the C.G.A. has added a Director of Women's Golf, increased the number of women's tournaments, added women to its Board of Directors, and helped women's golf associations across the state with their golf programs. Please click the Link to CGA.
Junior Girls' Golf: The NCWGA and its sister organization in South Carolina provide financial support for junior girls' golf in the Carolinas. Each year two tournaments and various learning opportunities encourage junior girls to take up golf as a life-long sport. An NCWGA committee welcomes requests from North Carolina junior girls who need help regarding their golf. Please see the Junior Girls web page.
Women's Virginias-Carolinas Team Matches: Each year a team of highly skilled women golfers is selected from North and South Carolina to compete against a team from Virginia and West Virginia. The NCWGA provides some financial support for the matches.
Southeastern Women's Amateur Team Matches: Five states, including North Carolina, send teams of their best ten women golfers to the Southeastern Women's Amateur Team Matches. While membership in the NCWGA is not required for selection to the North Carolina team, performance in the North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship is an important consideration in the selection process. The NCWGA provides some financial support for this competition. Please see the S.W.A.T.C.A. web page.
There is a place for all North Carolina women golfers in the North Carolina Women's Golf Association.
