The NCWGA held its first ever net team tournament September 17-18, 2005,  at Woodlake Resort and Golf Club in Vass, North Carolina.  The format consisted of the two best net balls from a team of four players.  There was wonderful participation, and 23 teams from across the state participated.  Participants formed their own teams, which could consist of any handicap combination.

The  players arrived on Saturday, September 17, and played a practice round on Woodlake’s Palmer course.  That evening, after the spectacular sunset over the lake, they were treated to supper and live karaoke under the stars on the beautiful deck of the clubhouse.  Most of the teams participated in the karaoke and tried to avoid being “gonged” by the co-tournament chairman, Pam Gaines.  Pam and Dotty Lawrence, the other co-tournament chairman,  did a splendid job in planning the tournament and accompanying festivities.  Many of the contestants stayed on-site in lodging provided by Woodlake.

The good times continued on Sunday, September 18, as breakfast was served before the shotgun start.  The weather was perfect and conducive to low scores, with the lowest and winning score being shot by Pat Scoggins, Joan Nestvogel, Lorraine Buracker, and Wanda Parker.  They were suitably lauded and honored at the luncheon and awards presentation following the round.  Of the 23 teams entered,  nine won prizes, most of which were monogrammed with the NCWGA team net logo.  The exclamation point to a truly outstanding event was the hole-in-one shot by Michelle Halchin (Cardinal CC) on hole number 12.  All of the contestants signed a Woodlake flag, which was presented to the ace-shooter at the awards luncheon.

This was a great tournament that golfers of all handicaps can enjoy, and we plan to make it an annual event.  Start thinking now about bringing your team for next year!
