PRESIDENT'S PAGE
June 2007

The 58th North Carolina Women’s Amateur Championship is in a few short weeks, and the 2007 event promises to be quite a shootout.  Without the defending champion, Adrienne Millican, in the field, the remaining 100+ contestants will have a real shootout at the Carolina Trace Lakes Course in Sanford.  Qualifying for the championship flight will be quite an achievement this year, as six of the players have plus handicaps, and 18 others have handicaps that are less than 3.  We are looking forward to seeing familiar and new faces June 18-21 and an exciting week of great golf!

At the conclusion of the 58th Championship, my term as president of the North Carolina Women’s Golf Association will end.  It has truly been my privilege to serve this wonderful organization over the last eight years, and over the last two, as president.  My job has been made  easy because of the strong board of directors that you have elected, and I  have been continually impressed by their commitment to and leadership of  the NCWGA. You are able to read this letter over the Internet thanks to our excellent webmaster, Ellen Reddick. You are able to play in a team tournament event in the fall, thanks to our team tournament chairman, Donna Johnson.  You can participate in State Play Day because of the efforts of Joanne Thompson. Junior girls’ golf is growing thanks to Nancy Mayer.  You are able to play in the 58th Championship because of the hard work of your tournament chairman, Kathy Schlagel. Your incoming president, Dotty Lawrence, has worked countless hours in drafting, mailing, and collecting the entries for the 2007 Championship, and verifying the legitimacy of the field.  As the 2000 Championship tournament chairman and a seven year board member, she is well experienced and will be an excellent president.   Each member of the board has contributed in a significant manner to the NCWGA, has driven hundreds of miles to attend meetings, and has devoted innumerable hours to fulfilling her duties, all at her own expense.

I have sincerely enjoyed working with the 2005-2007 board of directors and all of you. Thank you for your continued support of the North Carolina Women’s Golf Association.

Kim Clarke

President
