The NCWGA board of directors recently held its fall board meeting in Sanford, North Carolina at Carolina Trace Country Club, site of the 2007 North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship.  Located in the Sandhills, Carolina Trace is a private, gated, golf community boasting two championship Robert Trent Jones, Sr. golf courses.  The NCWGA will conduct its 58th Championship on the Lake Course, which opened for play in 1971.  Lake Trace is an integral part of the golf course and will provide many scenic views.  Because of panoramic elevation changes, the state amateur competitors will be challenged in their club selection.

In their first visit to Carolina Trace, the NCWGA directors worked to establish the course set-up and will meet again in the spring to re-evaluate and finalize the yardage.  New NCWGA board member and Carolina Trace member Kathy Schlagel is already hard at work in preparing to host the top 112 amateur golfers in North Carolina in June.  The scenic course and beautiful grounds will provide an excellent and challenging venue for the 58th North Carolina Women's Amateur Championship, which will be conducted June 18-21, 2006.

The North Carolina SWATCA team recently returned from the Southeastern Women's Amateur Team Championship in Hendersonville, Tennessee.  Representing North Carolina in this five state competition were Dot Bounds, captain; Debbie Adams; Sharon Barham; Kathy Binkley; Kathy Bounds; Patty Moore; Melissa Sage; Angela Stewart; Maggie Weder; and Dianne Yelovich.  Our strong North Carolina team included four players who had just returned from the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship in West Point, Mississippi, and one who had just won the N.C. Women's Senior Championship.  Despite poor weather for the Championship, the North Carolina team scored 9 ½ points and finished second, only one point behind host state Tennessee.  Congratulations to our North Carolina team!
