The second annual NCWGA Net Team Tournament was held September 9-10, 2006, at Little River Golf Resort in Carthage, North Carolina.  Twenty-two teams from across the state gathered for a practice round on Saturday at the picturesque former horse farm on the outskirts of Pinehurst.  Following the practice round, the competitors were treated to a wonderful cookout on the patio and rear lawn of the clubhouse.

Many of the players stayed overnight in the excellent accommodations provided by Little River, which included villas that were comfortably appointed for a foursome,  with ample room and views of the lake and golf course.  After a buffet breakfast on Sunday, play began with a 9:00 a.m. start.  Each four person team posted the best two net balls on each hole, and the fun format produced many low scores.  The state-of-the-art GPS system on each golf cart allowed the scores to be posted on the computerized scorecard after every hole, and the players were able to access the leader board at any time during the round to see how they were faring against the rest of the field.  This was very exciting and entertaining throughout the day.  There were 11 teams in each of two flights, and, at the awards luncheon, the low four teams from each flight were presented with Belk gift certificates.  The winners of Michelle’s Flight, with a score of 105, were Cindy Baker, Kay Golden, Delores Hammer, and Kim Clarke.  The winners of Annika’s Flight, with a score of 116, were Linda Bigham, Lib Kelly, Darla Howe, and Pam Congelosi.    For complete results please visit the Team Tournament web page.

Head golf professional Marvin Waters and his staff did an excellent job getting the course ready for play and hosting the deluge of golfers from the NCWGA, and NCWGA board member Donna Johnson was an outstanding tournament chairman.

Many of the women competed in their first NCWGA event at Little River, and we hope to see even more new faces at the 2007 net team tournament,  where you can bring your own team, socialize, and have fun with other golfers!
